Article States Wii Can Make Physical Therapy Fun

In 2012, The New York Times released an article highlighting physical therapists turning to Wii Golf for treatment plans. While it focuses on using Wii Golf for patients who are recovering from brain injuries or strokes, we think using Wii Sports to make physical therapy fun is an amazing idea!

Physical Therapy in Bellevue

By using Wii Golf patients can improve:

  • Balance
  • Movement
  • Gross motor coordination (walking and lifting)
  • Coordination

As patients play with the game, they can get immediate feedback about their balance, range of motion, coordination, and motor skills.

“We have seen it actually speed up their recovery time when patients elected to come to the rehab center in their free time to play Wii golf,” said Michaela St. Onge, an occupational therapist at Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle, Me. “Every little bit helps with recovery.”

Be Active

To recover successfully, it’s so important to keep moving and not be inactive for long period of time. Our suggestion? Keep challenging yourself to beat your own scores on the Wii to stay active!

At Bellevue Bone and Joint Physicians, we have talented physical therapists who have helped countless patients recover from unfortunate injuries and return to proper function. Please contact us today if you are need of physical therapy, and maybe you can incorporate some Wii Golf into your routine.
