Douglas A. Patch, MD
Dr. Patch is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery. He graduated from medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1984 and completed residency training at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in 1989. He served as an officer in the US Naval Medical Corps from 1989 to 1992, stationed at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. While serving in the Navy he was deployed to The First Gulf War aboard the USS Nassau, a warship with the capacity to transform into a hospital ship.
Following his military service, Dr. Patch practiced in the Boston area for sixteen years, most of the time at New England Baptist Hospital, one of the finest joint replacement centers in the country. At New England Baptist hospital he was an attending surgeon at The AuFranc Fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery, and he assisted in the fellowship training of nearly forty joint replacement fellows. While practicing in Boston he also participated in training orthopedic residents at Boston University School of Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine and University of Massachusetts School of Medicine.
Dr. Patch left New England in 2008 and, for the next six years, practiced with two large physician groups: The Permanente Medical Group in Oakland, CA, and Northwest Permanente in Portland, OR. In 2014 he was invited to join Bellevue Bone & Joint Physicians where he currently practices.
Dr. Patch has specialized in hip and knee replacement surgery for the past 20 years. During his career he has performed thousands of hip and knee replacement procedures. He understands what is at risk for patients who need these procedures and is committed to providing superior care to the patients who trust him to be their surgeon. He is also committed to objective quality measurement and improvement measures and is enrolled as a participant in the American Joint Replacement Registry. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
