Michael Battaglia, MD

Dr. Michael (Mike) Battaglia joins Bellevue Bone and Joint after serving 4 years as the Head Team Physician for varsity sports at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and Orthopedic Staff Surgeon at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He holds a clinical appointment at Johns Hopkins University and previously at the University of California San Diego. Dr. Michael Battaglia graduated from Uniformed Services University in Bethesda in 1991 and, after finishing his internship in Oakland, CA, was a flight surgeon with the United States Marine Corps until completing his residency and training in Orthopedics in San Diego in 1999. His final training was a fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, where he developed an interest and expertise in problems of the shoulder and knee. His experience there allows him to work with collegiate, Olympic, and professional athletes.

As a Bellevue Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Battaglia has continued his basic science and research work and has published many peer-reviewed articles and authored book chapters on ACL and revision ACL surgery. He is a member of several national and international societies, and currently is involved in the editorial and review of three peer-reviewed Orthopedic Journals. In addition to experience operating on over 150 division IA NCAA athletes, he has been a regular Orthopedic surgical consultant to the Navy Special Forces or SEAL teams.

Dr. Michael Battaglia and his wife, Heather, were married in Seattle in 2006 and were the first wedding reception held at the Seattle Art Museum Sculpture Park downtown. The couple has one child (Salvatore) who is an infant and enjoys keeping mom on her toes and climbing on the family’s 150 pound Great Dane “Titus”. They also enjoy skiing, hiking, and fitness. They are delighted to live here where the arts, theatre, cuisine, and music make Bellevue an ideal place to live.
