As your orthopedist for Seattle, Bellevue Bone and Joint Physicians wants you to feel comfortable and prepared before and after any orthopedic surgeries. There are many types of hip surgeries, and each will have their own recovery times and physical limitations post-surgery. To better prepare your home for after your hip surgery, here are some items you may want to keep handy:
Help from a friend, family member, or caretaker to help you around the house and with daily tasks such as bathing, using the restroom and cooking meals.
Raised toilet seat to aid in sitting on and standing from the toilet after surgery.
Shower chair to avoid having to stand while in the shower. Showering will be ideal after surgery, as getting in and out of a bathtub will be almost impossible.
A grabber is made for reaching and grabbing things that are too high, or that have dropped on the ground, without having to get up or bend down.
Blankets kept within arm’s reach can be helpful, as circulation (particularly in the area of surgery) is a little slow until healed, causing legs, feet, and toes to get cold easily.
These are just a few items that may make recovery time a little less of a burden. Speak with your orthopedist in Seattle about any other items that may be helpful during your specific recovery.
