Under the care of highly experienced anesthesiologist’s, our patients may elect to be fully asleep, completely unaware, or awake throughout the surgery, depending on the type of procedure.
After a thorough health history, your anesthesiologist will describe all of the options for anesthesia during your surgery, and recommend the best one for you. This will include reasons for that recommendation, and the risks and benefits of the anesthesia options. We strongly advise you to follow your anesthesiologist’s recommendation, but the final decision on anesthetic choice is yours to make.
The surgeon will typically administer a local anesthetic at the site of the surgery so that you will not experience pain after the procedure. The pain blocking benefits of this anesthetic usually last for 4-8 hours post-surgery, but can last several days.
